1977 movies I'd rather watch than Star Wars

Wherein the * notes movies I saw in 1977 and liked better than Star
Wars then

  • *Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  • *Smokey and the Bandit
  • The Goodbye Girl
  • *The Rescuers
  • The Deep (or at least the wet parts with Jacqueline Bisset)
  • Annie Hall
  • The Gauntlet
  • The Turning Point
  • *Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo
  • Slapshot
  • *The Hobbit
  • Jabberwocky
  • Kentucky Fried Movie
  • Semi-Tough
  • *Sorcerer (this was the best movie of 1977)

Wanted to add Gray Lady Down but it was out in 1978, not 1977. I saw that one twice.

  1. *Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Yes, easily. Still one of Spielberg's best.

    *Smokey and the Bandit

    Ugh.

    *The Goodbye Girl

    It was okay.

    The Rescuers

Didn't see it at the time. Seen it since and it's part of that '70s-'80s Disney animation nadir.

The Deep (or at least the wet parts with Jacqueline Bisset)

    There are other parts?

    *Annie Hall

Yeah. Didn't get it then. Probably would just flat out hate it now.

    The Gauntlet

    Love it.

    The Turning Point

    Haven't seen it.

    *Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo

Remember that crack about Disney animation nadir? They also had a live-action nadir.

    Slapshot

    Still haven't seen it.

    *The Hobbit

    Made-for-TV Rankin-Bass crud.

    Jabberwocky

    Unfunny. Grimy.

    Kentucky Fried Movie

    Awesome precursor to "Airplane!"

    Semi-Tough

Burt Reynold's was just The Thing, wasn't he?

Sorcerer (this was the best movie of 1977)

I've heard that. Haven't seen it yet.

  2. Thanks for sharing the list of these fantastic movies. I have some of these movies, which were really amazing. I found them a good source of fun. I was enjoying watching these movies so much that got so abosrbed in these movies and forgot about everything else, even my assignments, which I had to buy assignments online from US Assignment Helper to complete on time.
