MTV premiered it ysterday afternoon. I recorded it and watched it last night.
It's cute. I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it, but I don't feel that it was two wasted hours. It's pink and fluffy, with some pretty funny moments. I don't know that the star will ever be one of Broadway's great divas, but she has a strong presence and pulls off the brains behind the blonde. The other performers are likable enough.
I don't think the musical improved upon the movie at all. There were several lengthy pep-rally-like production numbers that stopped the story in its tracks instead of building on it. I don't think the professor was given enough evil moments, and his move toward the end seemed to come out of nowhere. The hairdresser character could have been completely removed for the sake of streamlining and pacing, although she gets some really big laughs.
Enjoyable, but I wouldn't have paid for it.
We taped it, haven't yet watched it.
Also, a delivery man has a great entrance line (I won't spoil it for you) that I hope to be able to use in a meeting some day.
All in all it was very much a musical for the XX set. (I listened to it while killing monsters on the computer.)
